GlobalTech
The GlobalTech Program (GTP) is a four-week program designed for students to improve their IT skills, build confidence in the cultural aspects of international study and more fully develop their intercultural communication competency and knowledge of terminology used in high-tech workplace settings.
The IT component of the curriculum exposes students to leading edge technologies through lectures, hands-on lab exercises and a final IT project where students develop knowledge in data-driven Internet applications with intuitive interfaces using Microsoft Visual Studio, Visual Developer and Silverlight.
The intercultural communication component is designed to help students engage and take initiative, even when outside their comfort zone, by giving them the skills to:
- feel confident sharing their ideas despite language, cultural or environmental barriers
- examine different approaches to teamwork and to foster leadership skills best suited to their needs and abilities
- working with unfamiliar resources and tech terminology
- collaborating with people from different cultural backgrounds
There are approximately 120 hours of structured activities in the classroom and community involved in completing the GlobalTech Program.
